Jack started school this morning at 8.30am until 1.30pm.
We were all terrified that he might throw a wobbly.
After all it is not that easy for a 5 year old to walk cold turkey into a school when he can not understand what is being said to him.
In fairness they were trying very hard to make him feel welcome but, regardless I am not sure at my age that I could do it.
When we picked him up he was a lot better than we expected. He said he could not understand anything they were saying to him but,,,,,,,,,THE RED BOY ….explained some things to him.
Translated that means the boy who sat next to him in the red top could speak a little English.
Well thank goodness for that, the school must have sat them together because the other boy had a bit of English.
We have for some time now been teaching him Castillano (spelling sorry)
What a waste of time that has been, because the school is teaching in Catalan.

You would not believe the amount of paper work we had to endure to get him this far and, today they have sent home a note about the teachers strike that will start on Monday but,,,,, it was written in Menorquinn. :)
That is all very well but google translate does not have the Menorca language on it. LOL
To make things worse Emily is signed up for school and the final paperwork is to be done in Mahon on Monday morning. She was supposed to be starting on Tuesday I guess that has gone down the tubes.
Funny isn’t that the kids here start school before their 3 birthday.
I suppose at least she will the language up pretty quick considering she is still trying to learn English. LOL

With all this I was astounded to find out that just because the strike will go ahead the school is still open.
It will open the usual hours and it will be supervised by stand in teachers. They say there will be no learning topics but, supervised play time until the strike is over.So Erin and Michael have decided to send them in anyhow, just to mix with other kids and get a start on the language.

I am not sure if I told you before that Erin did an intensive course on teaching English before she came over here?
The school has found out and,are already asking her to help out teaching in the school.

Erin is now in full time employment doing exactly what she did in Ireland (although she was hoping for a break from it)
The only difference being that her nursing is done in elderly peoples houses.

Michael still has no work and I am starting to worry very much about him.
This time of year is not good for anyone looking for employment :( He is a very hard worker and can turn his hand to most things. So hopefully something will come up soon, as it is starting to upset him.
As far as I am aware he has never been unemployed before.Fingers crossed something comes up verrrry soon.
Ok bye for now I will let you know what happens next week :)
