Re: First visit to Menorca, staying at Binixica

Have to agree with Steve. I normally stay in a villa in Son Vitamina, next along from Binixica, and you would definitely need a car just to get to beaches, supermarkets, restaurants etc. I would really recommend these two little hamlets and San Climente (gorgeous little Spanish town) - it's really p...

Re: Help identifying Menorcan insect please!!

When we went in July we saw what looked like something from a horror film.

8 inches long - alien looking - we were terried.

Googled it and it was a "giant Spanish grasshopper".

Bloody glad they dont get that big in England!

Re: Ice cubes (from hotels/bars)

In 8 years of visitng Menorca, we've never even used bottled water. I figure if the tap water is safe for Menorcans to drink then it's safe for me. Never once been ill.

Re: Car hire question..

With Poppy Cars you return the car empty of fuel (or as near as you can get). They are probably the most popular car hire company with users of this forum as they're really reliable. There are a few others recommened in the Car Hire thread as well.

Re: Car hire question..

We've always paid for fuel on arrival whether with Poppy Cars or other companies that we used to use. I assure you they're not trying to rip you off.

Re: Irish Bar

Why on earth would anyone rent or buy an apartment near a bar if they dont want noise? It's insane! I LOVE peace and quiet, so we stay as close to the middle of nowhere as possible. If we want to go somewhere busy we can and then we leave again when we've had enough. We used to stay in Arenal and di...

Re: Es Canutells beach Closed??

The river/stream at the far end of the beach was rather smelly and staining the water a funny colour when we had a look, but it was our first and (so far) only visit there so we didnt know if it was normally like that. The smell was like the rotting vegetation smell you get near Albuferia sometimes,...

Re: got back from arenal monday

Funny what a difference a couple of weeks makes isnt it? Smithy's was empty when we drove past it about 9.30pm one night in mid July.

I'm glad to hear Arenal seemed as busy as usual, it would be a shame if anywhere went bust. Even though I dont stay there anymore, I'm still fond of it.

Re: Places of intrest

My favourite thing to do is spend an evening wandering around the gorgeous old streets of Ciutadella, having a beer or coffee or pastry wherever takes my fancy and watching the sun set over the harbour.
