Es Caliu

Post by Cuita Della » April 3rd, 2004, 3:04 pm

Some of the finest meals I have ever had in Menorca have been at Es Caliu which is on the main road between Cuitadella and Cala n' Bosch, almost opposite the Cala Blanca turn off.

It doesn't look very imposing from the outside - a sort of Ponderosa type ranch building with a huge car park in front. If you drive past at the weekend you will see just how popular it is as the car park fills. Locals eat there as do most of the ex pats from the western side of the island, which is always a good sign.

Their steaks are fabulous and, if you have a hearty appetite, try their Queens Soup which is hard to describe but is a kind of stock pot soup with every kind of meat and vegetable you can think of thrown in - a meal in itself.

Service can be a bit on the slow side when they're really busy, but when you're on holiday you've got all the time in the world, so why worry? I'd say prices are in the mid range. You can eat cheaper but here you certainly do get what you pay for.
