Poppadums At The Ready

Post by sunnysideup » April 2nd, 2016, 12:44 pm

As i'm sure some on this forum will already know, Cala Forcat will be getting a genuine Indian restaurant this summer. It will be located at the old Daisies bar, by the new improved Dolphin Island. I have been told that the new owners are already established on Menorca with Indian restaurants in both Mahon and Cala Blanca. This will hopefully make a nice change from the usual restaurants, although I know a few do try and do curries, they are not the best tasting things.
Hopefully we will give it a try in May (if open) and report back to you with a honest review :toasting:

I'll look forward to your report Alan - I do love a curry and as you say the current offerings from Haiti and the like aren't worth trying.

Looking forward to the review, we'll be there 13 weeks on Saturday (not that I'm counting... ) and depending on Alan's findings we'll be paying the new place a visit.

Almost as important as the food - will it be San Miguel or will they have Lal Toofan or Kingfisher?

I have eaten at Masala restaurant now and must say that both the food and service was fantastic.
Amrul is running it himself at the moment. The restaurant is lovely well balanced and not rushed like in some of the others. The menu is very impressive, pages of mains with everything from your standard curry to specialised dishes. Most of the curries like Korma, Masala, vinaloo, madras, etc are €9.50 with the special curries being a few euros more, rice's and breads are served separate. The drinks are good I think its Amstel on draught, a great selection of wines and other drinks, but I had the bottles of Cobra. I had the Chicken pakora starter which was lovey, followed by a chicken tikka pathia and mushroom pilau rice, with naan bread. The sauce in the pathia was fantastic. There is also a menu of the day I think around €11.50 for 3 courses which is very good value. The night we dined it was full up at around 9.30 in the evening, so I'm sure he will be very busy in the main season. Most folks were saying just how good it was, and would definitely return again.
All in all a fantastic time, and if you are looking for a authentic Indian meal its very hard to beat it, so much better than the other restaurants Indian choices :toasting:
