Best beaches this summer?

Post by Juliegg » August 22nd, 2017, 10:41 pm

Nobody seems to want to post holiday reviews anymore, which is a shame for those of us still counting down to our annual stay on the island, so........to those of you that have been over already, can you give us a heads up on best beaches? For example, has Santo Tomas got its sand back yet, or is it still rocky? Presume that Macarella, Turqueta and Son Saura are still full by 8.30.a.m.and road closed? Is Es Grau and Tirant on north best area to go? Reports would be interesting to read........thanks

Hi Julie,

I've been out 4 times so far this year and have visited most of the popular beaches. Santo Tomas most definitely has its sand back, it's stunning again now.
Cala Galdana remains my favourite, it was a bit rough in May, but they have cleaned it up since and it was pristine in July, although very busy.
Punta Prima and Cala en Porter are also good.I love the simplicity of Punta Prima and a walk around the rocks/headland is always a bonus.
Arenal is also a beautiful beach, very clean.
Cal'an Forcat is obviously very small, so gets crowded very quickly.
Where ever you go, you are assured a clean beach.
Lover of everything Menorcan. :jozza:

Posted my review much earlier in the year!

However, fyi, local reports are that the demand for parking at the virgin beaches remains very high: car parks for Macarella and Turqueta were closed at 8.05am yesterday and up to 1000 cars are being turned away each day

Thanks Keefyd! Great to hear Santo Tomas has got its sand back, much our favourite, but have very much taken on board your comments on the other beaches.. We only visit once a year, sometimes twice, so very envious of you be able to pop over so often. We are looking forward to our trip, although sad that we cant go to Macarella now the only car park(if you can get in before it shuts) is the upper one. Did that climb down and the exhausting climb back up with buggy etc once a few years ago, and swore never again. Once again thanks for the reply, much appreciated. Regards, Julie

Hi

One to add to the list! Cala Mesquida, over the other side of Mahon harbour (Cala Llonga way). A lovely natural bay (no sunbeds). Full of Spanish and brilliant for snorkelling. Usually fine for parking, with a short downhill walk to the beach. Portaloos down there and a couple of caravans, one selling fantastic homemade ice cream and slush drinks, the other selling your branded stuff.
