Restaurant name?

Post by jthkgwood » June 30th, 2013, 5:12 pm

There is a restaurant near Fornells, the name of which cannot recall. It has a good reputation based on conversations we have had whilst holidaying in previous years. I think it specialises in steaks and pizzas amongst other things. Anyway...it is located on the long stretch of road which approaches Fornells and near a'T' junction which is used to head into Playa de Fornells. Does anyone know of the name of this restaurant based upon my sketchy description?

An excerpt from my 2009 Fornells eating out post..I think this is the restaurant you mean

Our second night, we decided to try the restaurant almost opposite the entrance to Playas de Fornells on the Mercadel to Fornells road, just at the turn right into Ses Salines? its called Ca Na Marga. Its a lovely little place, well set out with a conservatory for smokers or those who like more outdoorsey feel to eating out. It has a massive indoor barbaque and a wood burning pizza oven all magically run by George the owner. The menu is mostly meat and pizza's as youd expect but there is a good fish selection too. We ordered starters of Atlantic Salad and Mrs S had roasted peppers stuffed with seafood..a Menorcan classic the can be an expensive disappointment. My salad came with green leaves, chick peas and baby cherry tomatoes and thin slices of pickled cod and chunks of really fresh tuna..drizzled with a really tasty oil dressing. Maybe pickled cod isnt to everyones taste but it was lovely. The peppers were large and well roasted and the seafood stuffing had loads of crab etc with a good flavour.
Main course, I had roast knuckle of pork..what we'd call a ham shank in Yorkshire, Mrs S had chicken kebabs from the bbq. The pork came on a bed of roasted veg with sliced potatoes, the chicken came with a mountain of chips and bbq'd tomato. The pork had a lovely crackling skin and fell off the bone, good flavour too. The kebabs were done beautifully, still moist and had been marinaded. George the bbq cook and owner came over to ask if our meal was good too. Service was excellent. We shared a sweet of crem caramel, had two large beers, a dry martini and a bottle of house rioja and coffee. Price, not cheap at 62 euros..but we felt the meal just justified it compared with what we'd had the previous night.

That's the one, many thanks. I remember reading your original review at the time. I think that's how I first heard about it. Every time I have driven past it since, I have always made a mental note to give it a try but never have. Must go there this summer.

Ca Na Marga is gorgeous and one of our favourites, even staying near the south coast we always make certain to take a trip up to visit at least once during our stay. It can get very busy late on Friday and Saturday evenings, so I try and avoid going then.

If you are eating outside towards the rear make sure you have put some insect repellent on - although the greenery around the outside eating area is very attractive it does mean there are loads of mozzies.

The desserts are amazing :finga:
