Cantina - Isla del rey

Post by Shuggie » October 10th, 2021, 2:15 pm

We had a fantastic meal at the restaurant Cantina on the Isla del Rey (hospital island) in the port of Mahon yesterday.

I’ve visited the island before but many years ago. Since then a lot of restoration work has taken place and this summer there has been an art exhibition on the island. Not really my kind of thing as all the art looks like it’s been done by 5 year olds.

This summer they have opened a restaurant which I’ve been hearing some positive things about. You can get to island by the yellow catamaran €5 or water taxi €15 return or take your own boat and moor on the north side of the island.

The menu is great. The 8 of us had a wide selection of starters which were all very good. The men then had 3 legs of lamb between the five of us and some very reasonable red wine. The wine list does go to €250 per bottle  not sure what the women had as they were at the other end of the table but it must have been good as there were no complaints. We all had local cheese cake, coffee, brandy, and the bill came to €500. The service was top class and the setting is very unique. All in all I would really recommend a visit.

Link here to their website, where you can make bookings and also see the menu.

 It sounds very nice.
I only let him think he's in charge.

Another fantastic day at Isla del Rey. We kicked the arse out of it and had lamb and the steak which should have been for 4 but of us 3 big blokes managed.
