Mahon land train

Post by Slartibartfast » August 17th, 2011, 10:22 pm

They have started a land train running round Mahon. Times are 11:00 - 15:00 the 18:00 - 23:00

It runs from the Explanada down to the Plaza de sant roc, and then down the 'Snake' into the port, along the port stopping at the Mermaid then up the hill towards Fort de L'Eau and round to the front of the post Mahon hotel with another stop [it arrives here at 20 past the hour. Then onto Plaza del Carmen, the maid market. From here it runs up the back streets around the town and back to the main Explanada.

For a whopping €5.00 you get an hours ride round Mahon with a little commentary thrown in, The girl who collects the money and gives the commentary speaks good English and is very friendly. You can get off at any of the stops and get back on the next train to go a little further.

That is great to hear. I actually saw the train when I was over in July, I think they were just testing the route etc because there were just some official looking guys riding on it.

Cant wait for next year. Steve, do you know if they will be running it in the winter months? Maybe a silly question now I come to think of it.

:???: If I tell everyone where to park there'll be no spaces left for me :???:

The port Mahon hotel is the red bed on this map http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=2 ... 39,0.01929

You can catch it from the Esplanade outside the bus station, it stops outside McBurgerKing.
