Padlock

Post by Lizc » January 26th, 2018, 7:45 pm

The padlock at the top shows on some pages but not others.
If I open latest ‘Scot pics’ there is no padlock but if I open ‘A story in 4 words’ there is a padlock.
The ones without the padlock seem to have links to other sites so don’t know if that’s why and if those pages are secure 🤔

I'm not the boss but hopefully I can explain. All pages on this site are secure, it's just the way the URL is being displayed. On some it's a padlock and on others it starts with https//. It's the same thing though, both the s and the padlock mean secure. If you expand the URLs that have the padlock you'll find it changes to https//
Hope this makes sense
It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice :gmb:

John is correct he is not the boss, neither am I but that's a completely different story

In General: A green padlock means all the information passed between your computer and the web site has been encrypted and can't be read by a third party spying on your web trafic.

Some might say that encryption is only needed when sensitive information is being passed, E.G. login details, or any personal details you enter when using a shopping or banking sites.

The BBC site for example does not appear to use https on some of their pages but does if you go to their login page.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-42745491
https://account.bbc.com/signin
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news
https://www.bbc.co.uk/

If the green padlock has a yellow triangle, exclamation mark or line through it, it normally means that the page contains mixed content.

Mixed content: Some of the content, adverts or web cams for example are being served from a none https [secure] web site. So although the web site your viewing is https the advert is not. I hope this explains it.

Thanks for the explanation gents

I only access the forum from a tablet so I don’t get a coloured padlock. It’s either a grey padlock or if it’s mixed content, Menorca-net.co.uk.
It’s probably always been that way and I’ve only just noticed

Is it actually a popup?? as there shouldn't be any popups. What computer/tablet/phone and which browser are you using to view the website.

I've been trying to get rid of that 'no Joke click' here for a week now.
