Green sea

Post by Napper » July 27th, 2018, 8:43 am

Morning, I've just read online that some strange algae is making the sea appear dirty and not it's lovely clear blue colour. We normally love going snorkelling or enjoying the view from club menorca. Is it as bad as the report says?

That’s how green it is.

They are trying to pump cold deep sea water into the bay which will kill algae and turn it back to blue.

It’s been very hot this week and there is a weather warning for extreme temperatures for today.

They have now put in the pump that sucks the algae further out to sea,

Such a shame about the murky sea, abandoned our snorkelling and gave beach a swerve. My poor grandson (age 11) arrived and was so looking forward to using his new full face snorkelling mask.

Despite the green algae the snorkelling in Cala'n Porter bay is still great - once you get out deep enough! Once you're out you're depth the water is a beautiful blue and absolutely crystal clear - we've been able to enjoy some amazing snorkelling at Cala'n Porter this season. Lots of sting rays on the sea bed, saw a big Mediterranean Jelly (not harmful, but beautiful!) and also a group of what we think was Barracudas feeding just under the Club Menorca cliffs :)
