Very quiet...............

Post by Torre-soli-sid » May 31st, 2018, 11:52 am

My first visit of the year was May 8-15............and where was everybody?? everything more or less up and running in the resorts but was glad to go to Mao for a bit of company and a bit of life. Miguel at Las Dunas said "quieter than last year", Budah hadn't even got his nightspot curtains up yet "no people" and even Andres was half full. Thoroughly enjoyed the fish market Tapas eating in Mao and my new favourite Perla in the alleyway next to the Pou Nou shop...........terrific food and great service. Way was magnificent as usual as was Es Bruc in Santo Tomas...............see you all again in July for sun and cricket.

Hi Sid, hope you and yours are keeping well!

Good report of your early season visit! We returned in the early hours of this morning and TBH the place isn't exactly buzzing, even now!

Budha Lounge launched the 'cloaked terrace' on Friday, but there were just a handful of us in there on opening night and Vincent said accommodation bookings were down, apparently due to a 30% increase in prices  Obviously the Monarch thing doesn't help either (Whitsun flights were nearly a grand for just the 2 of us)

The busiest place by far was the Hawaiian bar, which attracts many of the hotel workers who are partial to a boogie. The Kit Kat seemed quite busy (but it's only a small place really) and there were a few folk outside Joseph's (now Roca) when they had an act on.

In the resort we ate at Las Dunas, which seemed pretty busy and Boni Indian, which was quiet. We went to Opera (the best seafood pasta, as always) and Santa Rita (gone off a bit) in Mahon, but neither was buzzing. Had an ace BBQd rabbit at Ca Na Marga in Ses Salines, loads of free tables though. Also amazing food at Gastro Tapas Bar in Es Mercadal, which was busy (but tiny inside, so not many tables to fill). The busiest (and most expensive) restaurant  we dined at was Es Port in Fornells. Perfect fish/seafood and deserts and they must be raking it in, as the place was packed. It was our first visit and we would return, for a special occasion, however, you must be aware that the menu prices don't include IVA (which we didn't realise when we ordered our meal) :???: We popped into the Miramar on Calas Fonts, before flying home, for a few excellent tapas and a big plate of Menorcan prawns. Seemed pretty quiet down there too, surprisingly :???:

The weather was pretty decent (a fair bit of sun and in the low to mid 20s) ,so was in the sea nearly every day (warmest at Cala Galdana, but a bit green and weedy). Only spotted a couple of the dreaded medusas, thankfully not the Portuguese man o' war that have been washing up on beaches in Majorca  and did a spot of kayaking at Son Parc (Bob's 'guns' were pumped to the max when we docked onto dry land after an hour and he needed a good solid recovery on his sunbed  ).

Anyway, soz for hijacking your post Sid  B

Back to reality now! I daresay we'll see you in July :partyman:

Very informative as usual Sue but.......

Nearly a grand for flights x 2 at Whitsun? Are you having a 'giraffe'?

We are out next week. Originally with Monarch but easily got my money back when they went down the pan. On Squeezy jet now and even with pre-booked seats it is 'only' £320 for 2 of us . ( yes return ) from Gatport Airwick. Admittedly travelling Thursday now. Friday flights would have been more than double. Outrageous!!

Yes, Whit week is always a fortune, made worse this year by the Monarch thing  We've had to book that week for years, due to hubby's work, so always felt ripped off  However, next year we're not tied to Whit, so are booking the following week  Looking at Jet 2's prices for 2019 we'll be quids in (although we still need weekend flights, so not as cheap as mid-week)! Still, all the more to spend on :partyman:

Have a good hol!

All the flights are expensive from Manchester if you look £400 to £500 rip off.
Always on my way to Menorca
