May 2018 in Son Bou

Post by mthompson1875 » June 2nd, 2018, 9:52 pm

Arrived home yesterday after spending a very pleasant last week of May in Son Bou. Arrived late last Friday evening to find the resort very quiet, compared to what we have seen visiting high season in previous years. Only a handful in Arthur’s at 930pm. Similar story elsewhere. Apparently it was busier than the previous week with virtually nobody around daytime either then. Bar owners suggesting Monarch the main reason but dodgy weather hadn’t helped.

Weather forecast was a bit iffy and we saw some cloud first couple of days but promised rain never arrived and got hotter each day as the week went on, breeze dropped and scorching by the end of the week.

Beach quietish early in the week with the weather but beautiful as ever. No loungers appeared until last Friday - guessing not worthwhile till June! Had a walk to Santo Tomas and same as SB beach winter storms have shifted sand down to rocks in places - both beaches seemed a bit smaller than previous years.

Bar trade improved over the week. Kit cat as welcoming as ever and packed for football play offs and champions league final. Can’t stop calling La Roca Joseph’s but still the same handy watering hole and also decent breakfast option for when another morning of Milanos Pinguinos dining room bedlam is too much to face! Other old favourites still the same, even managed to visit a very pleasant Mai Tai after previously failing to get past Hawaiian bar. Both popular with locals as well as tourist trade. Ones Bar opposite MP seems to have fallen by the wayside with no signs of opening up. Capo (?) wasn’t open either but lots of work going on and lights going up so hopefully another option soon.

All in all a very pleasant trip with SB gearing up for another Summer season - hopefully we will be back soon!

Great review, fab to be back on site after a long time of not remembering where I stored password etc😳😳😳, can't wait to return to island in July. Can't believe it's been nearly 20 years now visiting in son bou. This year we have a different villa " Carolina " any feedback from previous guests here most welcome.
Anyway looking forward to again contributing to this fab site , and soon driving around
Our home from home in fantastic menorca.

Seems the new arrival in the old ‘capo’ venue in the shopping centre is a branch of Es Bruc restaurant of Santo Tomas Binigaus Beach fame. Expect it will be decent and a good addition to the SB restaurant choice. Somewhere new opening, bucking the recent trend of closures and empty units - great to see. Should add a bit of a buzz to the Buddha area at the top of the hill and add some post meal trade for Mai Tai and the Hawaiian bar. Shame it opened just after we left for home but one for everybody to enjoy high season!
