Moving to Menorca

Post by fify » April 19th, 2016, 12:53 pm

Hi there,

Sooo after several years of visiting the island, during different times of the year, we've decided to take the plunge and move there.

We're hoping to be there by September (depending on how fast things move on this side...)
So we're a family with 2 young children ( age 6 & 10) they are home educated but would love to start school in Menorca.

We have already found a home in Calan Porter.

The children have a very basic command of the Spanish Language although I believe Catalan is more widely used on the island.

I'd be grateful if anyone could offer any useful information on schools please.
- When does the new school year commence?
- What are the school hours?
- Will they be accepted with basic Spanish?
- What is the registration process?

How are your children doing after moving for UK?

Any useful advice welcome.

Lots of hard work ahead....

If you are a fluent Spanish speaker you can do a lot of the work yourself... if not perhaps Slarti can pass on the details for an interpreter Kate - invaluable. She got us through the registration process even whilst we were still planning from the UK. From memory I think we moved in June but the kids did not start till the August. Probably best if you contact the authorities well before the next intake year as places can be limited at certain schools. We moved in 2010 I think with 2 primary aged kids and returned to UK in 2012. Returning was a lot easier. PM Slarti and find out if he still has the contact details of Kate.

Good Luck.
Ah! This is how you do this.

Thanks....

So .... 'famous bob' Are you living back in UK now? I'm just curious because I'm hoping that someone can tell me how their children coped with the schools in Menorca.

We'll be there in May so I'll try and find out more about the registration process...

Can anyone recommend a good, reliable removal company from UK to Menorca? The company I would have gone with (MOVINGA) have not answered any of my emails for days .....
I've tried SPACE STATION in Sant LLuis .... They're not responding to any of my emails ...

Thanks

Try White & Co. you see their vans in Menorca quite often.

Here is a website showing reviews of my local branch of the company.

I don't think space station do house moves, I don't think their van is large enough. I do believe that Whites https://www.whiteandcompany.co.uk/ still do Menorca.

Many people have said, why don't you move there, as we visit twice every year. for many years.
Where would we go for our holidays, has always been my reply and always will be.
hope yours all works out fine.
