Resort guide to Binibequer

Click here for Worth a visit info.

The area and resort known as Binibèquer [Binibeca] lies on the south east coast about five miles from Mahon and stretches from Cala Torret marking the eastern extreme (although this boundary is now being blurred as building starts in the area knows as S'Atalaya along the coast between Cala Torret and Biniancola), to Binibèquer Vell, the famous fisherman's village, but in some holiday brochures this is stretched to include Binisafua and Binnidali.

Cala Torret is a pedestrian village of low rise fisherman's style apartments about 500 meters from Binibèquer beach, behind it and stretching up the gentle hill side is Binibèquer nou an area of privately owned villas with public tennis courts in the middle. Cala Torret has several restaurants including:- El Faro's, Restaurant D.P which now has new Spanish owners, Bar Baloo, Pedros restaurant and the cheese and pate bar in the fountain square plus Pedro's bar. With a good size supermarket, car hire and launderette Cala Torret has everything for your day to day needs. Note the chemist has closed the nearest is now in Punta Prima.

Cala Torret On the edge of Cala Torret village is the information office and management centre for quite a few of the villas and apartments in the area. From this office you can get advice and information, rent mopeds & push bikes, book taxis and even ask them to check the times on your return flights. [A small charge is made for phone calls] In front of this is a small harbor with jetty and hoist for launching small boats, and is home to Binibèquer Diving. The area is also very good for swimming and snorkeling with the jetty and steps making access to the water easy. there's also a bar / restaurant in the harbor open all day.

The beach, a good sheltered and calm Cala (inlet), with it's fine white sand is ideal for young children. The beach bar, Los Bucanero open from around 10:AM. serves drinks, snacks and light meals is very good. There's public lavatories, sun beds, sun brolleys and pedalos for hire.

Walking further west along the coast you come to a roundabout, the road going inland takes you to Sant Llouis and Mahon, passing the Binicudi apartments on the brow of the hill overlooking Binibèquer. Following the coast again 200 meters along is the Palomino apartments and Garden Village right on the edge of the sea. The Palomino block houses a small supermarket, gift shop, two restaurants, the Palomino Bar and the Smugglers.

A little further along is the Bini Inn a good restaurant [A little more expensive than others] with inside & outside dining, a nice comfortable bar and swimming pool for customers use through the day. The Bini inn also has a tortoise garden with 4 or 5 wild [aggressive? ;-) ] tortoise.
Binibequer vellt Another 500 meters and you arrive in Binibèquer Vell. The highly architecturally acclaimed village is to your left with the commercial centre on your right. This has around six restaurants including one with a large pool for public use [as long as you buy drinks or food] and a music [night club type] bar, that is open till late plus a "pub" type bar that closes around 1:am. several shops selling the usual holiday gifts, leather goods and clothes. A twenty four hour medical centre and quite a good supermarket. The village and harbor area is very picturesque and so gets a few coach buses doing the island tour stopping off here through the day.

Binibequer vellt All along the rocky coastline from Cala Torret right down to Binibèquer Vell are sheltered coves usually with foot paths and steps leading down to swimming platforms. From these the snorkeling and swimming is very good and you don't often get more than two or three other people joining you. Please note although diving and jumping from the rocks can be great fun you should check first that there aren't any hidden dangers or rocks near the surface before you take the plunge.
